Enrico Baj
Born 1924 in Milan.
Studies law and attends at the same time at the Accademia di Brera in Milan.
1951 together with Sergio Dangelo he founded the "Movimento nucleare" and
the following year he released the "Manifeste de la peinture nucléaire".
Until 1957the group, which was joined by different Italian and foreign
artists, organised numerous exhibitions in Milan, Brussel, Venice and Turin.
For instance with Yves Klein, Asger Jorn, Arnaldo and Giò Pomodoro, Piero
Manzoni, etc.
Since 1953 illustrations for different fine editions of books.
Worked as a journalist for the Corriere della Sera and other Italian
newspapers.
Author and editor of more than ten books. 1955-1959 editor of an art
magazine:
1957 release of the manifesto "Contro lo stile" which objects the
classification of art and underlines the impossibility to repeat art; ideas
that Baj still supports.
1962 friendship with Marcel Duchamp
1963-65 Baj works in the former atelier of Max Ernst in Paris
After coproductions with Piero Manzoni, Asger Jorn, Lucio Fontana and Man
Ray between 1958 and 1969, he meets Mark Kostabi and in 1992 they work
intensively together.
Exhibitions (selection):
Since 1951 regulary in the international art capitals Paris, London, Milan,
New York and Chicago.
His works are shown in the most important museums like the MoMA New York,
the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, the Centre Pompidou Paris and the Guggenheim
Museum New York, as well as on the most important art fairs.
